There aren’t age parameters in fashion. My motto has become, Don’t tell me there are rules.
- Lyn Slater, New York style icon.
I stumbled upon Lyn Slater after clicking around Facebook and ending up on Elite models UK’s special bookings page. Alongside Icona Pop and the Maybury sisters, there she was. My first thought was – WOW how could I have missed this amazing woman? With her impeccable taste and fashion-forward styling it makes me wonder how this lady has stayed under the radar until now.
Lyn Slater was an unknown university professor and social worker from New York with a penchant for Japanese design. Until she walked past a fashion show and become a style star. She started her blog and Instagram page, appropriately named Accidental Icon after paparazzi mistook her for a celebrity on the streets of New York City. She was meeting a friend outside of a fashion show and found herself bombarded with camera flashes
"I was surrounded by fashion photographers taking my picture, thinking I was some fashion person," she told the Huffington Post. "It was really all very accidental.”
She started the blog in September 2014 and is now at 63, a fashion blogger who inspires world-wide. She has proven that it's never too late in life to become a fashion queen and has quickly gained a cult following on her Instagram and blog Accidental Icon. She is a visual artist who puts stereotypes of what women in their sixties should wear to shame, filling her feeds and page with snaps of herself rocking everything from graphic white shirts and black trousers to a metallic coat with matching shoes.

"I started Accidental Icon because I was having trouble finding a fashion blog or magazine that offered an urban, modern, intellectual aesthetic but also spoke to women who live what I call “interesting but ordinary lives in cities.."
